Opening field Single, successful and unwilling to marry: many young women's new life
Take a look at this daring piece reflecting a most significant cultural happening:
women between 30 and 40 years old who doesn't live up to the social expectation of becoming wives or mothers, who doesn't build their lives upon finding that
special someone, and who are more concerned with personal development than with anything else. The dark face of this way of life, though, is a high level of absorption in professional life, which entails changing one set of securities for another.
In any case, this recent trend opens some doors towards visualizing different possibilities and acknowledging some of the fallacies of marriage.

Bush outlines homeland security strategy
Here’s a compilation of recent news on some proposals that the US government has raised and some others that have been suggested, based on the already used up argument of “protecting the country from terrorists”, that expose their prepotency and that pop up the usual “they have to be joking”… Like, for example, some of the outlines for the homeland security strategy, and the preemptively strikes against countries considered to be enemies.

To fall in love and don't fail in the intent
How to make yourself fall in love with anybody
Afterwards two peculiar articles. In the first one an American psychologist claims it's possible to make yourself fall in love with someone conscientiously; he adds that we are blinded by passion, and that the current way we love and build relationships is stupid. And even though he might be right, instead of searching real new forms of human relationships he's about to initiate an experiment to see if he can manufacture love, thus basically reproducing the same model and carrying the old vices with it.

Then, scientists say that it's not only chemistry what makes a couple work, but also the agreement on some matters; that being twin-alike is better for relationships, and that sharing the same taste in beverages is the key for a long happy life together.

Labor's life
Bruce Springsteen: His Kind of Heroes, His Kind of Songs
Check out this interview to Bruce Springsteen about his latest album inspired on the Sept 11th events, The Rising, a record basically about "duty and death". Springsteen also describes his main motivation to write as being professional life and everyday matters; he confesses finding hope in family, friendship, and again, work, and says he certainly doesn't find spirit and faith in "abstract places but in the real world of living".
By the way, do all the oldie, semi-retired from life songwriters live in outlying farmhouses?
And when they talk of being in touch with "the real world", doesn't this sound a bit funny coming from nearly isolated people?
