Solitude as an enduring test
"I sleep alone at night"
Here, an interview to Nicole Kidman, two years after her divorce, that shows the interesting contradiction within herself (that of devoting herself to her marriage, and disliking her new role of divorcee, but recognizing as well the new liberties it has given her), which also reflects what it meant to pass from a secure place to a more uncertain one, the questions this has stirred up in her, and the recurrent and vital topic of loneliness and the importance of friends.

Death - the real outrage?
Who Wants to Live Forever?
Sneak a peek on this open-minded piece, a close look at the minority (so far) of people who believe human mortality is just another boundary to be crossed, and who consider death a disease that's worth being cured. Although the author attributes human fear of death to the irrationality the issue of immortality is dealt with, he seems to be leaving something else aside: the factor of repetition. The way we actually live, and the sensation (almost the certainty) that at some point in our lives there will be no more things to discover, may push some to simply wonder why live any longer even if we could?

A new state of mind as well?
A Shock To The System
And finally, continuing with the idea of the coming of new times in state of power of governments (both by the state's imposition or the people's resigning to their liberties), take a look at this Time Magazine brief on Europe's measures to fight crime. This article explains the irrationality of the situation - the supposedly "actual facts" don't have much correlation with real numbers - and analyzes the timing of this massive campaign. Is there a general mental disposition that fuels government's moves? Meanwhile, authorities continue to act as they please in what is being called a liberticide.
