Basta de crucigramas, nada mejor para la mente que un buen debate

Para comenzar el año aquí les dejo un artículo que habla sobre la habilidad que tenemos para entrenar y continuar mejorando nuestras capacidades cognitivas pese al paso del tiempo. En el siguiente material se intenta rebatir la idea del declive mental como un destino ineludible, resaltando incluso algunos atributos conferidos por la madurez y hablando de la regeneración del organismo:

“The brain, as it traverses middle age, gets better at recognizing the central idea, the big picture. If kept in good shape, the brain can continue to build pathways that help its owner recognize patterns and, as a consequence, see significance and even solutions much faster than a young person can.”

…pero tal vez más interesante aún, se propone que la forma más efectiva de mantener la mente despierta y activa, y fomentar la generación de nuevas conexiones, es confrontar puntos de vista diferentes (o contrarios) a los nuestros, “reflexionando críticamente sobre las asunciones que hemos adquirido”.

“…for adults, one way to nudge neurons in the right direction is to challenge the very assumptions they have worked so hard to accumulate while young. With a brain already full of well-connected pathways, adult learners should “jiggle their synapses a bit” by confronting thoughts that are contrary to their own…”
